"Tierra de Lucha" highlights the everyday experiences of Colombian workers, local organisations, and trade unions in their struggle for better working and living conditions, fair pay and social protection
Tierra de Lucha
When we think of Colombia, we think of the abundance of its nature, of its lively cities, but also of poverty and violence.
“Tierra de Lucha” throws a spotlight on the daily lives of Colombian workers. Decades of violence have left their mark. Despite the peace agreement and the periods of conciliation, serious inequalities persist. A small elite still owns most of the land and a significant section of the population has no prospect of a better life. A majority of the Colombian population does not have access to decent work. Colombians cannot find permanent jobs, or they are exploited.
In this unsettling climate, FOS, IFSI and Solsoc are supporting local organisations and trade unions in their struggle for better working and living conditions, fair pay and social protection worthy of the name. They also support social and solidarity economy initiatives. NGOs and trade unions work together to reduce exclusion and inequality.

Watch the documentary
Tierra de Lucha, documentary created by Bibbi Abruzzini, Dimitri Vanham and Ioanna Gimnopoulou, tells the story of four workers: a domestic worker in Medellín, a sugarcane cutter in the Cali region, a farmer in the Cauca region, and a young trade unionist in Bogotá.
They fight for their rights, but this is not self-evident. In their struggle for a just existence, they come up against the government, large corporations, and even armed groups.
The Tierra de Lucha project was created in 2019 thanks to local Colombian organizations and the Belgian organizations FOS, Solsoc, and ISVI. Through a documentary and a photo exhibition, the Belgian public was introduced to activists fighting for better working conditions in Colombia.
